UX Case Study: Modernizing the MLS Login Experience
Company: Rental Beast
The previous design of our login system was outdated, visually unappealing, and did not instill confidence in our users. A lack of modern design elements can make a system feel unreliable, even if the functionality remains intact. To address this, we set out to create a new, clean UX design that emphasized simplicity, ease of use, and trust. A fresh, modern interface would enhance user confidence and improve the overall experience of logging into our system on both a desktop computer and a mobile device.
Our primary users were members of multiple listing services (MLS). These professionals, including realtors and agents, needed seamless access to our backend system, as well as the ability to log in directly through their MLS portals. Realtors and agents don’t want to be burdened by overly complex designs; their main goal is to sell homes quickly and efficiently. To achieve this, they need tools that are intuitive and easy to navigate without unnecessary distractions. A cumbersome login experience can be frustrating and time-consuming, taking away from their ability to focus on their clients. The goal was to create an experience that accommodated both direct system access and MLS portal login, ensuring a smooth, efficient, and intuitive user journey tailored to their needs.
To resolve these issues, we designed a modern, user-friendly interface that clearly guided users through the login process. The updated system allowed users to either log in directly through our platform or access their MLS via their respective portals. For those choosing the MLS login portal, a pop-up window appears displaying their corresponding MLS logo.
By clicking on their MLS logo, users were seamlessly redirected to their MLS system. This intuitive approach reduced confusion, streamlined the login process, and reinforced trust with a polished and modern aesthetic. The new design successfully met the needs of our users while aligning with our goal of enhancing confidence and usability.
Another crucial aspect of the redesign was ensuring a fully responsive experience for mobile users. Many realtors and agents are constantly on the go, relying on their smartphones and tablets to access listings, communicate with clients, and manage transactions. A non-optimized login experience on mobile devices could lead to frustration and inefficiency, negatively impacting their workflow.
To address this, we implemented a mobile-friendly version of the MLS login system. The responsive design ensured that users could easily navigate and log in regardless of the device they were using. The pop-up MLS selection window was optimized for touch interactions, making it seamless for users to select their MLS and proceed with their login process. By prioritizing mobile accessibility, we provided a consistent and user-friendly experience across all devices, enhancing usability and ensuring that realtors could access the tools they need whenever and wherever they needed them.
